B Division - Chudleigh hit by injuries for top-of-table clash

LEADERS Chudleigh entertain second-placed Hatherleigh in what should be the B Division match of the day.

Chudleigh skipper Jon Martin is burdened with a lengthy injury list which includes himself.

If Chudleigh do have to dip into the 2nd XI, Martin is confident the strength in depth is there.

“We have a few injury worries going into this week’s big game with myself (achilles), Ed Foreman (hamstring) and Lance Ames with a persistent hip problem all hoping to be fit to keep us at the top of the table,” said Martin.

“Without any possibility of new signings at the moment, the squad is getting a bit stretched.

“But we do have some decent players waiting in the wings to come up and perform for the club.

THORVERTON have a captaincy issue going into their game against Tavistock.

Skipper Ali Fury is out for the season with a dislocated shoulder – and vice-captain Gareth Hess is unavailable due to injury.

“It means we have to appointment an interim captain which will be Paul Fielder,” said Fury.

Also out is Nick Barton, which Thors could have done without.

Thors go into the game just four points behind second-placed Hatherleigh, despite being rained off more times than any other team in the division.

“We are happy to still be in touch with top two despite losing four games to weather,” said Fury.

Tavistock, who are inching away from the drop zone, are without batter Ian Gray but welcome back all-rounder Colin Broughton.

“I am looking to build on some good performances over the past few weeks,” said skipper Shaun Daymond.

ALPHINGTON welcome back batting all-rounder Alvin Pollard from a spell at Exeter for the home game against Lewdown.

Pollard, whose cricket CV includes Exmouth, Plympton and Cockington got his transfer approved ahead of tomorrow’s deadline as Exeter didn’t raise any objections.

“I am very excited about having Alvin back in the side,” said skipper Paul James.

“He is a great lad and is a good cricketer. I feel he has a lot to offer the youngsters we have in the side and I am hoping we can get the best out of him as a team.

Seamer James Knight promoted from the 2nd XI in recognition of his hard work with the ball.

Lewdown will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at Barton, only their second this season.

They had only lost once previously, so James is rightly wary of them.

“A tough game this week and we are looking for a good performance to take into the second half of the season,” he said.

BARTON are at home to Barnstaple & Pilton looking to show their win over Lewdown was no flash in the pan.

“We are looking to build on last week’s win and feel all aspects of our game are clicking,” said skipper Adam Parker.

“As always there is still room for improvement, but each week we are getting better and better.

“Hopefully we can get a positive result so that we go into the half way stage in a good position.”

Team news is that Sean Adderley is away so Alex Hunt steps up after some good performances in the seconds.
