B Division previews - Chudleigh aim to bounce back

LEWDOWN are eyeing a second successive victory at home to Dartington & Totnes tomorrow (2pm).

Last weekend, newly-promoted Lewdown, against a weakened Tavistock team, opened their account with a 146-run win at the Ring.

Lewdown had never played, let alone beaten, Tavistock in a Saturday league fixture.

Lewdown skipper Charlie Hughes said: "The important thing now is to follow that we win with another.

“The main thing is we won as after losing to Hatherleigh the previous week, we wouldn't have wanted two losses on the bounce.

“Hatherleigh are top and we don't want that lead to grow any greater, so picking up points now is a premium, if we want to realise our potential and ambitions and be around the leading places in a couple of months.”

Lewdown make one change with the unavailable Phil Yeo replaced by Carl Weeks.

TAVISTOCK head for Barnstaple looking for a win to get them out of the bottom two.

All-rounder Colin Broughton is back from illness, Sean Cleave is back from a injured back and Jamie stephens and Andy Gauler are back from wedding duty.

CHUDLEIGH go to Axminster looking to bounce back from their defeat by Barnstaple & Pilton.

Matt Heather and glovesman Mark Solway have been dropped and Ed Forward comes in to keep wicket and Baz Griffiths comes in to strengthen the middle order.

“After a disappointing loss last week after being in a very good position we are looking to get ourselves back on track against what looks to be a struggling Axminster side,’ said skipper Jon Martin.

“We are not expecting an easy game and are going to have to work for everything we get.”

B DIVISION leaders Hatherleigh will be unchanged for their trip to Barton.

Having trounced Axminser by 10 wickets, there was little likelihood of any changes.

Skipper Richard Lake is upbeat about going to Barton, who have won one, lost one and drawn one so far.

“We go into this weekend’s tricky away trip to Barton very confident and hoping for another positive result,” said Lake.

Barton skipper Adam Parker, encouraged by holding out for a draw at Alphington, feels his team is moving in the right direction but needs a change of mindset after last season’s unsuccessful battle to avoid relegation.

“We need to get in the habit of winning games,” said Parker.

“Towards the end of last year we played not to lose which is a different mentality.”

Sean Adderley and Harry Moores are available and will be in the selection melting pot.

ALPHINGTON, away to Thorverton, show a couple of changes to the side that drew with Barton.

Skippper Paul James has work commitments, so Stuart Shaw resumes his old job as captain again.

James’ replacement in the side is former Exeter City footballer Matt Taylor, who plays fir Charlton Athletic now but is ‘home’ for the weekend.

Nick Ainscough isn’t available so his place goes to University of Exeter student Nick Cooper.

Thorverton’s Andrew codling returns against one of his former clubs,, but Paul Fielder will miss the game as he is on holiday.

James Hope will step up to open the batting and Thors will bring in new signing James janion to bat in the middle order.

Skipper Ali Fury said: “We find ourselves in a good position with 45 points from 46 but I still feel we are under performing and will be looking for a much-improved performance this week.

“I am expecting a much tougher test from Alphington, but our main focus will be on ourselves and doing the basics right.”
