SKIPPER Shaun Daymond is back to lead Tavistock into their game against Chudleigh.
A non-cricket injury has kept Daymond out since the second week of the season, but he had a comeback outing in the 2nd XI last Saturday and is fit to return.
Also back is seamer Chris Hutchins, prompting an optimistic note from the captain despite Tavvy’s lowly position.
“Our team is coming back together now,” said Daymond.
“We have scored 200 in the last two games and just need to get our bowling more consistent. Then, hopefully, the wins will start coming.”
Lewdown skipper Charlie Hughes will offer a prayer to the weather gods ahead of the visit of Axminster.
Hughes felt Lewdown would have won at Chudleigh last Saturday but for the weather and doesn’t want another game to go the same way as he chases a third successive promotion.
“There are going to be no easy games this season, but if we can reach the same level of performance as we did versus Chudleigh we can be confident of a positive result,” said Hughes.
“We seem to be getting into our stride now with runs and wickets being shared around and, hopefully, proving we are not a one-man team, although Rob Mutch is a big asset.
“I just hope the weather is kind as we have already lost two games.”
Ben and Jack Williams come in for Pete Cooper and Mark Gibbs.
Leaders Thorverton go to Barton for the first time in a league match. Batter Dave Baldock should return having been at a wedding last Saturday.
Hatherleigh, who are second, entertain lowly Dartington.
Alphington are at home to Barnstaple & Pilton.
