B Division 2nd XI - Alphas glad of downour
ALPHIINGTON were probably glad of the rain for saving their skins against visiting Sidmouth 3rd XI.

Dan Powell’s 63 not out and Anthony Dibble’s 44 helped shunt Sidmouth to 237 for eight.

Tom Weeks (22) and Tom Murray (37) had already been and gone in Alphington’s total of 95 for five. Henry Gater claimed two for 12.

Mark Edmunds top score of 80 not out was one of the highlights of Kingsbridge’s washout against Brixham. Rhys  Dallow’s four for 49 for Brixham was the other.

Bideford were bowled out for 180 at Ipplepen with Keith Bell (4-41) doing most of the damage. Mike Lemmings made 35.

Skipper Simon Tapley was 32 not out in Pens’ total of 57 for two.

Leaders Plymstock were held to 177 for seven at Abbotskerswell – Dan Dyer (45) and Ian Whally (34) the main accumulators.

Haydn Crocker and Hugo Whitlock kept it tight early on finding some considerable swing and seam movement and took a wicket after 11 overs with 20 runs on the board.

That opened the flood gates as Crocker aided now by Noah Tobias (2-18) reduced the home side to 29-4 after 21 overs, with Crocker finishing with 2-15 off his 13 overs.

Whalley and Dyer upped  the rate before Dave Palmer removed them both in taking 2-28 as the home side ended on 177-7 after their 46 overs, a few more than they should have got after their early troubles.

In reply Abbotskerswell started well with Noah Wright in his first 2ndXI innings looking solid and skipper Guy Harrison-Roberts riding his luck against an excellent spell of bowling by Lee Savage.

Noah Wright was out for 21 not out in Abbots’ tally of 43 for none.

Matt Blackmore hit 64 as South Devon posted 153 for nine against Ottery, for whom M Louden took five for 46.

Ottery were 83 for three when the heavens dumped on Marsh Road.
