DEVON Women are hitting the road to raise money for much-needed new kit
The senior side, who won promotion into Division One South of the T20 League last season, have lots of young ladies coming through.
A sign of things to come was outright victory in the Malvern Festival last season for the new U19 side, who will graduate into the seniors over the next few summers.
THE U17 girls had a successful 2013, finishing National County Championship runners-up and also runners-up in the West Region performance T20 league.
Devon has a successful track record in the ladies game, producing internationals such as Amara Carr, Heather Knight, Jodie Dibble and Aylish Cranstone.
What the girls need now is kit so coach Warren Carr and player Ali Kelly (pictured) are tackling the Bideford 10K on May 11 as a fund-raiser.
The total cost is £3,300, not that Carr and Kelly from North Devon CC and Tarka Ladies expect to raise it all in one go.
'We thought this would be a good way to try and contribute something to the overall cost," said Carr.
'Each kit will cost £165 per player and our aim is to raise enough funds to pay for two full kits.
'The only pre-requisite is we reach our target of £330, otherwise any pledges will not be debited from people's accounts.
'We hope we will surpass this target, but thought it a realistic one which we have a good chance of achieving.
'Some people have already sponsored us but I would be grateful if they could make pledges online to firstly help us reach our target and secondly to make collecting your kind sponsorship easier.
'Whilst this may not be right up there with major charitable work, it is a project that means a great deal to a group of very dedicated young women who are in need of a new kit and as such is very important to us.'
