TIPTON St John batsman Joe Birch slammed a 38-ball century in a friendly match at Yarcombe & Stockland.
Birch came to the wicket to join Phil Tolley at the fall of the fourth wicket and the pair promptly added 156 in the next 11 overs.
Tolley faced 39 balls for his knock of 54, but that was outdone by the Birch shift.
He set a new club best for the fastest century as he slammed nine fours and ten sixes to bring up his ton from just 38 deliveries!
One of his sixes knocked a pigeon out of a tree surrounding the ground. Tipton closed on 280-5.
The home team’s Rex Helston top scored with 82 as they were bowled out for 178 with Birch fittingly involved in the final wicket, swooping to throw down the stumps to run out the last man.
David Birch (3-18) and Jack Roberts (2-20) were the principle wicket takers for Tipton.
