Bovey do Exeter no favours
BOVEY Tracey made it an unhappy return to the Premier Division for Exeter as they raced to a 113-run win over the city side.

Opener Damian Bourke made a top score of 77 for Bovey – he was third out on 151 – in a home total of 273 for six.

Encouragingly for skipper Peter Bradley, who made 26 opening up with Bourke, all the frontline batters got runs.

After Bradley and Bourke put on 64 for the first wicket, Andy Fairbairn (28) then Neil Hancock (40) kept Bourke company up to 190 for four.

Max Golding went cheaply for a dozen, and Sam Wyatt-Haines (4) missed out, but Chris Bradley came in at 196 for six and clubbed 43 off 20 balls with five fours and two sixes as he and Ben Ayres (31no) wound up with 77 unbroken in the last six overs.

Pick of the wicket takes for Exeter with two each were Matt Hicks and Blake Reed.

Skipper Jon Tipper and spinner Harry Booker kept the runs down, as did Andy Meade.

Paceman Merryck Steward had a nightmare 10-ball first over to Bourke, costing 22 runs, and didn’t return.

Exeter were undone by a lively opening spell from Hancock, who had all of the wickets to fall as they slumped to 43 for five.

Reed and Will Steward went lbw – both felt they hit the ball first – but Hancock (5-21) bowls straight as Alex Bosomworth and Miles Lenygon discovered.

The bottom half of the order attempted a fightback with Cameron Evans (25), Booker (33) and Mead (21) whiling away a few overs.

Joe Barrs (3-34) came back for a second spell to blow away the resistance and with Ryan Bougourd (2-24) getting in on the act Exeter were all out for 160.
