Cachopa blasts Bradninch into T20 finals

BRAD Cachopa cracked a century – no mean feat in 20-over cricket – as Bradninch beat North Devon by four runs to reserve the last place in the Devon T20 finals day.

Exmouth, Plymouth and Bovey Tracey were already through to final day at Cornwood a week today (August 14) – and eager to hear who would be joining them?

Cachopa his first 50 off 29 balls and raced to a ton in 56 before falling for 103 with the score on 190.

Along the way there was a stand of 113 for the first wicket with Tim Piper, and one of 59 with Sean Nowak, who made 10.

North Devon’s bowling figures were not for the feint hearted, although Matt Westway (2-30) stood up well considering the stick flying around.

North Devon very nearly gave as good as the got to reach 197 for seven in their 20 overs.

Alex Smith top scored with 60 – he took 29 balls getting to 50 – and until he and Dan Bowser (36) both got out at 187 an unlikely win seemed on.

Earlier, Neil Bettis (31) and Robert Gear (36) had hoisted 79 for the first wicket.

Sunday’s running order is Exmouth v Bovey Tracey (10.30am), Plymouth v Bradnich (1.30pm) with the final at around 5.30pm.

Bradninch 201-5 (B Cachopa 103, T Piper 49; M Westway 2-30), North Devon 197-7 (A Smith 60, D Bowser 36, R Gear 36, N Bettis 31; S Nowak 2-32, B Cachopa 2-30, G Chappell 2-28).
