HATHERLEIGH slipped to their second defeat in a row when they went down by 78 runs at Brixham and are just nine points clear of the A Division drop zone.
Brixham totted up 194 for nine in 50 overs – George Northcott stroking exactly 100.
Northcott put on 75 with Mark Orchard for the fourth wicket and 42 with Jordan Gregory.
Sean Leatheren cashed in at the end when four wickets went in three overs to finish with five for 34.
Hatherleigh collapsed to 69 for six in reply – Orchard (4-22) doing the damage – and with Lee Upham (3-22) and skipper Gary Spencer (2-29) getting in on the act they were all out for 116. Only Carl Schwarz (21) survived long.
Mark Lake, the Hatherleigh captain, said Brixham were allowed to get too many runs on a pitch that showed wear and tear after tea.
“We were very slack in the field again - if we held our chances yet again we wouldn't have been chasing more than 120,” said lake.
“Then we got done on wearing pitch and a lack of responsibility with the bat.
“Brixham bowled really well and built pressure on us, but we didn't apply ourselves.
“No doubt about it the wicket was tough and 194 was far too many.”
