Cafe Rouge in Birmingham, where Devon recently hosted a highly successful evening with Englandteam boss Andy Flower, who is patron of the David Shepherd Foundation.CAFE Rouge, the national group of restaurants owned by Tragus Holdings, which has branches in Plymouth and Exeter, is backing the David Shepherd Cricket Foundation in its efforts to identify and develop the next generation of Devon cricketers.
Explaining why his company have made a grant to the foundation, Andrew Hodgkinson from Cafe Rouge said: "Many of our customers are cricket supporters and we are delighted to support an initiative formed in memory of one of England's cricket legends.”
Devon CCC won the Minor Counties Championship for the first time in five years in 2011. Chairman Geoff Evans said: " With the support of companies such as Cafe Rouge we will be able to further invest in the Devon Lions and hopefully introduce more young players from the Devon League into the full county side in the future.”
This week Devon’s Charlie Morris ,from Budleigh Salterton CC heard he has been selected for the Oxford MCCU squad.
Torquay’s Matt Thompson, who topped the Devon batting averages, has been given a place in the Cardiff MCCU Academy squad.
"This is a great achievement by both players" said Devon's director of cricket Roger Newman.
“They will certainly benefit from the experience of working with top players and coaches at their universities throughout the winter.”
The Devon selectors will no doubt be following their progress closely as the county team prepare to defend the MCCA Championship next season.
