DEVON were 98 for three at lunch on the first day of the Minor Counties Championship play-off game against Cambridgeshire at March Town CC, writes Conrad Sutcliffe.
Skipper Chris Bradley lost the toss and was asked to bat first under leaden skies.
Devon were soon in trouble at 10 for two with openers James Burke and Rob Holman both back in the pavilion.
Burke fell lbw to Tom Mees and Holman was caught at slip off Jamie Barr, who played for Bovey Tracey earlier this season.
Third-wicket pair Bob Dawson and Rob Woodman pushed the score along to 71 before Cambridgeshire struck again. The man out was Dawson (27), who fell to a catch on the boundary.
Woodman was 43 not out and Lye unbeaten on 17 at the break, which came after 36 overs.
Torrential rain during the lunch break ruled out any prospect of restarting on time. Umpires Izzard and Debenham abandoned play after an early tea.
