CLYST Hydon look like being without Sri Lankan star Dhanuja Haturusingha this season after he ran into visa problems.

Haturusingha, who took 57 wickets last season and 55 in 2010, has been unable to get into the country.

“We found out in last week his visa had been rejected after we were told all was fine,” said Clyst skipper Ian Sutton

“We will probably appeal, but I am not sure of the chances.”

Clyst got by without Haturusingha at Ottery St Mary last Saturday, running out 92-run winners in a low-scoring affair.

Clyst’s total of 137 all out didn’t look great, but Ottery fared far worse.

Ottery reached 15 for none, stumbled to 17 for three, lost four wickets on 25 and were all out for 45.

The man who did the damage for Clyst was Kevin Sercombe with seven for 21.

Ottery skipper Jody Clements said: “We bowled okay and when we took the pace off the ball we made it difficult for them.

“Sercombe was accurate, he put the ball up there and made the batsmen work and forced us into mistakes.”

Earlier, James Faulkner had taken five for 29 and Sam Loud two for 42 as Clyst Hydon struggled.

Only Richard Martin (41) and George Pawley (20) had decent afternoons with the bat.

Clyst entertain Chagford this Saturday.

Ottery St Mary visit Ivybridge.

STOKE Gabriel pulled off an unlikely 39-run win over Chagford in a low-scoring affair.

Derek Lammonby (5-20) and Neil Rowlands (3-18) appeared to have done the hard bit for Chagford by shooting Stoke out for 104.

Dave Bolland made 28 but only Doug Ansley with 10 got into double figures on a bad day for Stoke, who were 57 for six at one stage.

Chagford then slumped to 17 for eight in reply as Andy Scott (2-18) and Dave Bolland (5-13) tore into them.

Arnie Searle batted through for an unbeaten 21, but the damage was done and Chagford were all out for 65 – 20 of which came in wides.

Clyst St George tackle form side Bideford this Saturday on the back of a solid display against Kingsbridge.

Veteran Chris Cook led with 53 – reverse sweeping Bhanu deSilva for four along the way - and there were handy contributions from Craig O’Dwyer (35) and George Randall-Johnson (32) in Clyst’s 201 for nine. Neil Peach with four for 25 was Kings’ best bowler.

Kingsbridge had a mountain to climb after slumping to 85 for six, but with Josh Dorey digging in for 72 they reached 190 for nine.

The game could have gone either way until Kings ninth wicket went  midway through the penultimate over.

Cook capped a man of the match performance with three for 40.

Skipper Matt Cook said Clyst need to find something extra in the field against Bideford.

“We batted well as a team and took most of our opportunities, but in general as a fielding side we lack a cutting edge,” said Cook.

IPPLEPEN took the derby spoils against Ashburton to set themselves up nicely for a crack at Kingsbridge this Saturday.

Ashes were all out for 123 with 10 overs to go after running into Steve Bowden (3-19) and Keith Wakeham (3-32) on a good day.

Skipper Ashley Harvey made 32, former captain Chris Pascoe made 29 and there were 20 extras in the final product. No one else made more than six!

The Pens were home and hosed inside 25 overs with four wickets intact, having negotiated a lively spell from Tom Durman (4-36).

Moriz Hartmann (38) and Sam Wakeham (25) did the ground work, Matt Quartley (20no) got on with it and Jonny Ranjit hit Gordon Colwill for six to win it.

Ashes face early pacesetters Bideford this Saturday.

BIDEFORD were glad of an unbeaten 46 from Chris Luxton for seeing them to a two-wicket win at Ivybridge.

The Bridge were all out for 165 in the last over – Martin Stewart (4-42) and Luxton (3-19) doing the damage,.

Kelvin Trent and Kevin Jacobs both got into the 30s for Ivybridge.

Skipper James Ford made 67 to get Bideford up and running before Jeewan daSilva (4-33) bowled the Bridge back into the game.

Luxton kept cool to set Bideford on course for their second straight win.
