CLYST St George II were emphatic 10-wicket winners when they entertained Shobrooke Park.

The match also produced the Francis Clark League’s earliest finish of the day with everything done and dusted before 4pm!

Shobrooke Park pitched up at Bohea Field with just nine players and they were bundled out for a meagre 58. Liam Hine was the architect-in-chief of their downfall, taking 7-35 with his right arm medium pace.

Oz Besley took the other wicket to fall. Dan Takle then struck a quick-fire unbeaten 30 and skipper Kevin Coe was not out 18 when the win was sealed.

The victory takes Coe’s side to 63 points and they sit third bottom of the C Division 2nd XI table.

This weekend marks the half-way point of the season and Clyst St George travel to Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough II who sit third in the table having won three and lost two of their eight games to date.

In the clash of last season’s D Division West and D Division East champions Kingskerswell won an encounter they largely dominated from start to finish.

Put in on a very damp wicket the Kerswell openers Kris Davis (56) and Mike Etherington (22) put on 67 for the first wicket and when the score reached 115 for two with 17 overs still to be bowled a score in excess of 200 looked likely.

However Honiton showed their resistance thanks to good bowling performances by Andy Canniford (4-36) and Andy Brinsford (3 for 23) and Kerswell found themselves pegged back to 157 all out.

Honiton’s optimistic view of proceedings were soon to be shattered by Kerswell opening bowler Pieter Douglas.

Douglas quickly removed three of the top four Honiton batsmen, all bowled, to leave them struggling at 13 for three and despite some fine hitting from Andrew Lapping (42) Kerswell and Douglas were not to be denied.

Douglas (6-24) successfully removed six of the top seven Honiton batsmen, all bowled, leaving Davis to mop up the Honiton tail to dismiss them for 88 moments before the deluge arrived.

Irritated Honiton skipper Lapping said later: “We have to pick ourselves up before we slide into a relegation scrap! Some of the shot choices, including my own, gifted them (Kingskerswell) too many of our wickets.

“What hurts is that it’s not the first time this term I have said that! We may not be having much luck so far this season so we are going to have to make our own luck to turn things around, we have the players to do it they just need to up their game.”

Elsewhere, Will Moore took six for 15 to set Clyst Hydon (92) on course for a 42-run win over Plymouth CSR (50).

Leaders Cornwood were 54 for three when rain halted their game against Yelverton (137-7).
