C Division - Joshi back on board at Chagford

CHAGFORD have resigned former professional Prakash Joshi and he made an instant impact in his return game against Kingsbridge.
Joshi, who played Commonwealth games cricket for the West Indies in his heyday 20-odd years ago, first appeared in 2002 for Chagford.
He last played for the club regularly three years ago and has been playing in Somerset for the past couple of seasons.
Joshi was back with a bang against Kingsbridge, taking five for 24 as they were dismissed for 150. Jon Wright (2-34) and Neil Rowlands (2-14) chipped in.
James Westlake’s 85 was the only score above 20 for Kingsbridge, who were all out in the 31^st over.
Chagford won by three wickets, but only after a struggle having been reduced to 79 for seven by Bhanu DeSilva (3-41) and Neil Peach (2-24).
Skipper Del Lammonby (27no) and Rowlands (19no) saw the Moorlanders home.
Chagford are at home to Shaldon this Saturday.
CLYST Hydon warmed up for their meeting with promotion chasers South Devon by handing out a 145-run thrashing to Shaldon Optimists.
Dhanuja Haturusingha top scored for Clyst with 44 in a total of 242 for nine.
Also among the run were Chris Holmes (42), Ian Sutton (41), Graham Trude (23) and Kev Sercombe (22).
Carl Woolnough (3-37) had the best figures of any Shaldon bowler.
Woolnough then top scored with 23 for Shaldon in a dismal total of 97 all out.
There were three wickets each for Haturusingha (3-40) and James Billington (3-6) – and two apiece for Sercombe and Will Thornton.
ALPHINGTON will fancy their chances of making it three in a row when they play second-bottom Kingsbridge.
Stuart Shaw’s men followed their win over previously unbeaten South Devon with a workmanlike 47-run victory over Dartington & Totnes.
Mike Shepherd (57) and Dinesh Rajesh (39) got the Alphas motoring with a stand of 97 for the second wicket.
Tom Bath made 56 as the scoreline reached 239 for eight in 45 overs.
There were two wickets each for Ryan Stevenson, Jono Colgate and Hugo Baxendale.
D&T crawled along at first – they only had 30 on the board after 20 overs – which left some catching up to do.
After Steve Rew went for a lengthy 54, Stevenson tucked into the bowling to make 97.
Bath (3-25), Shaw (2-33) and Rajesh (3-27) ensured no one stuck around too long with Stevenson, who was the eighth man out in a total of 192.
SOUTH Devon were quickly back to winning ways after the setback against Alphington when they ran into bottom team Plymouth CS&R,
Civil were skittled out for 88 by Mike Smith (4-25) and Dave Knowles (3-13).
Take out Dan Windsor’s 39 and 21 from Chris Sanders and there wasn’t much from the rest.
Knowles (26) and Simon Rooke (20) set up a routine win for the Newtonians, who are now back within a point of Ipplepen at the top of the table.
South Devon entertain Clyst Hydon this Saturday.
IPPLEPEN got home by two wickets at Ottery St Mary in a nail-bitting affair.
Ottery recovered from an early onslaught from Kiwi seamer Caleb Gaylard to reach 200 for six.
Gaylard’s figures of five for 18 included four of the wickets to fall in a running total of 30 for five.
Jack Pritchard (83no) and Alex Thurgate (52) put on 124 for the sixth wicket before the returning Gaylard parted them.
Ottery had something to defend on the board and made Pens work every inch of the way for their win.
Billy Rudolph (3-24), Joe Burch (2-23) and Thurgate (2-24) made regular inroads.
Knocks of 63 by Exeter University student Matt Nicholls and 36 by Jack Lewis were crucial for getting Pens over the line.
