Application needed says Chudleigh captain

CHUDLEIGH skipper Ed Foreman has made no rash predictions for the season ahead as the club looks to put last season’s relegation behind them.

Chudleigh didn’t win any of their first nine games and despite a fantastic recovery in the second half of the season that earned 110 points from 180 on offer, down they went with Abbotskerswell.

Most rival side will tip Chudleigh for a prompt return – especially with Faisal Khaliq back to shore up the attack.

“With Faisal returning we know we have a top-quality overseas player to lead the attack and pass his knowledge onto our bowlers,” said Foreman.

“He has been bowling with good pace over the winter and is sure to be a handful this year.”

Foreman is just a little cautious though, hardly surprising after last season.

“This season is all about applying the lessons we learnt last year,” he said.

“We have a young squad who are ready to take the club forward. I am looking for players to take responsibility and be hungry to put in match changing performances.

Just because we were in the A Division last season does not mean that we are favourites to gain promotion. “

“I cannot say what our aims are for this season yet because I honestly don't know.

“We will be looking to spend most of the season in the top half of the table and see what happens.

“The league looks strong this year and we will have to be at our best every week.”

Ben Holmes may have gone to A Division Barton, and Sachintha Galhenage to Premier side Torquay, but otherwise the squad is much the same.

Bowler James Faulkner has arrived from Ottery and Foreman hopes to add a couple of players in the comings weeks, although it’s no names yet.

“Both would be excellent additions to our squad and fit in perfectly to our young side,” said Forman.

“One is a very tidy keeper/batsman, capable of making big runs at this level, and the other is a perfect replacement for Holmes and would take the new ball.

“They have some difficult decisions to make before committing to us.”
