Loots slams ton in D&T Corry Cup win

DARTINGTON & Totnes retained the Corinthian Cup they won last year by beating Feniton by seven wickets in this season’s final at Ipplepen.

Feniton did well to reach 144 for nine in their 16 eight-ball overs as they were 87 for seven after a going over from Sam Gray (3-25) and Ryan Stevenson (2-30).

Stuart Bright (15) and Danny Lewis (22) made the runs which got Feniton up to a respectable score after Adi Pullen made 35 early on,.

Jono Lloyd, later named man of the match, hit 76 as D&T knocked off the runs. Matt Thurlow chipped in with 37.

A stand of exactly 100 for the third wicket between Lloyd and Thurlow, which took the score up to 131, broke the back of the chase. Stevenson (6no) smacked a four to win the match.

Feniton skipper Mark Kingdon said of his side's final defeat: "Whilst we lost, and that's the fourth final for yours truly and three times now as a bridesmaid - it was actually a very enjoyable competition to be involved in.

‘We used it to give bigger occasion experience to a couple of youngsters who did very well and will have benefited from the opportunity.”

It is the third time in four years that D&T have lifted the cup. To reach the final, D&T got past Kingsbridge – in a game which came close to becoming the Bertus Loots show.

Loots was the man with the bat as he slammed a century in D&T’s total of 163 all out.

Lloyd (pictured left collecting his man of the match award after the final) went first ball to Neil Peach – caught at extra cover – but a stand of 50 with Thurlow got D&T back on track.

Loots finished with 15 fours and four sixes in his 108, which was more than Kingsbridge managed between them!

Kingsbridge were all out for 99 in reply with Loots (4-23) doing a large amount of the damage. Richard Sugden and Stevenson had two wickets each.

After Jack Westlake (25) departed there was not a lot left in the locker as Kingsbridge lost their last five wickets for 24 runs on the way to defeat.

Feniton won through to the final thanks to a 34-run win over Hatherleigh.

Hatherleigh have reached five finals days in the last six years and not gone on to win the cup.

Adi Pullin struck 55 and Charlie Selley chipped in with 22 as most of the batsmen made some sort of total, allowing the innings to close on 177.

Pullin then claimed four wickets as Hatherleigh's reply floundered on 143 – Ryan Davies top scoring with 57.
