JACKSON Thompson returns to Bradninch with Cornwood this afternoon in one of the more intriguing Tolchards Devon KO Cup ties.
The former Gloucestershire and Unicorns left-hander was Bradninch’s pro last season and a grand time he had there too!
Thompson’s 822 Premier Division runs included 222 against Budleigh Salterton, the first double century in the top flight since it was formed in 1972.
Unfortunately, Thompson couldn’t keep Bradninch clear of the drop zone and down they went with Budleigh Salterton.
Thompson is looking forward to going back to Kensham Park today, but the re-unions will have to wait until the game is over.
‘Last year was tremendous for me personally, but as a club we did struggle and eventually got relegated,’ said Thompson.
“I was very sad to move on from Bradninch during the winter, but I thoroughly enjoyed my 2013 season there.
‘It will be strange to be in the away changing room than the home one - I don't think I have even had a peek in the away changing room yet!
‘I am fully committed to Cornwood this season, but Bradninch players are still friends and a good bunch of lads, so I am looking forward to catching up with them, although the weather might cause havoc.’
Cornwood haven’t had a great time this season and are one off the bottom of the Premier Division after last Saturday’s defeat by Plymouth.
Thompson is confident Cornwood will turn things round soon.
‘We have some fine, talented players and it's just the case of us igniting that spark that will enable us to put up consistent performances,’ said Thompson.
‘A victory in the cup game would further boost our confidence and kick-start our season.’
Plympton, at home to Bovey Tracey, welcome back skipper James Carr who had to work yesterday and missed the game against Barton.
Exmouth will be without Devon paceman Trevor Anning against Paignton, but have Ian Bishop in as a more-than useful replacement.
Paignton captain Connor Bryan plans to field the same team which was due to play Plympton yesterday.
Sidmouth have been hard hit by county calls for their trip to Chudleigh, which they will make without Josh Bess, Liam Lewis and Charlie Miles. Keeper Peter Randerson is on holiday.
Batters Matt Hewer and Harvey Sergeant (pictured) come in - Hewer will keep – and additional cover comes from 2nd XI captain Nick Gingell and Miles Dalton.
Sargeant has progressed through the Sidmouth youth set-up to Devon age-group cricket – and scored two tons for the U15s on their winter tour to South Africa.
‘The cup game is a good opportunity to give Harvey a taste of 1st XI cricket,’ said Sidmouth captain Will Murray.
Plymouth have to manage with Devon opener James Toms, Scotland’s Hamish Gardiner, keeper Harry Stephenson and opening bowler Dave Burke against visiting Torquay.
Replacements are Dan Goodey – like Sargeant a Devon youth prospect – Jon Varcoe and Ben Singlehurst. Veteran Steve Luffman will keep wicket.
The game between Ivybridge and Heathcoat will take place a week today due to a mix-up over the availability of the Filham ground.
Elsewhere, Barton are at home to Tavistock and Budleigh host Exeter.
