Plymouth through in cup by half a run!

SIDMOUTH will face Plymouth in the Devon Cup final next month after wins over Heathcoat and Plympton respectively in the last four.

Sidmouth recovered from a hesitant period mid-innings at Knightshayes to make 202 for five with Luke Bess smashing 60 at run-a-ball rate to get the innings going again.

Anthony Griffith (40), Neil Hancock (26) and Ben Gledhill (26) gave Sidmouth a start before the innings slowed. Heathcoat were all out for 125 in reply

The game between Plymouth and Plympton was a much, much closer affair, settled by less than a run!

Rain-ruined a perfectly good game of cricket at Mount Wise, where Plymouth made 251 for five and Plympton were 153 for four when proceedings were halted.

“We had managed to keep Plympton behind the rate and when it got too wet the umpires made the call in the interest of players’ safety,” said Plymouth captain Callum Whittaker.

“It was as sad ending to what should have been a cracking run chase and not a great way to win a semi. But were are pumped to be in the final.”

The run rate was Plymouth 6.3, Plympton 5.77, which is little more than half a run.

“It was a disappointing way to lose, especiallyas with 12 and a half overs to go we thought we could get them,” said Plympton captain Andy Walter.

Doug Hewitt (82) and George Stephenson (84) were Plymouth’ leading run getters.

Walter had 47 for Plympton, Josh Mailling made 33 and Imran Ali Pasha was on 33 not out from 15 balls when the weather closed in once and for all.

The final will be at Bovey Tracey CC on Sunday, September 4 with a noon start.
