SOUTH Devon CC brought the curtain down on their promotion season in the C Division with their annual dinner and presentations evening.

The main prize – the Tony Richardson Trophy – for the player of the year went to Sean Day, whose contributions invariably came at crucial stages in matches.  Day took 23 wickets at 12.09 and also made 314 league runs.

Jon Martin’s 31 1st XI wickets earned him the Gary Bowles Trophy for the leading wicket taker.

A new award was made this season with the committee putting up a trophy for the most exciting innings; this went to Neil Hancock for his 99 on debut for the club against Ottery St Mary.

The Bill Dalton cup for the best performance of the season went to Matt Blackmore for his 123 against Barnstaple.

Brian Allan was named the 2nd XI player of the year and received the Len Coldwell Cup for his 247 runs at an average of 61.75, Allan is no stranger to this accolade as he has won it on four previous occasions.

The W G Lewis Cup for the best all-rounder was handed out to Mike Smith who was second in the batting averages, scoring 375 and taking 17 wickets.

Smith’s father-in-law, Dave Amery, was the 2nd XI leading wicket taker with 21.  This was the sixth time Amery will have his name inscribed on the Mick Jones Cup.

Eleven of the club’s colts featured in the two senior sides.  Joe Kitto topped the 2nd XI bowling averages as well as featuring in the 1st XI, where he took some memorable catches.  His efforts meant he picked up the Simon Chambers Cup as the best young cricketer.

The Tim Bounden Cup for the most improved Colt was shared between Jonty Tupman and Cameron Moss.

Chris Hart, managing partner of the Club’s main sponsor Wollen Michelmore, was on hand to present the awards on the night, which was hosted by the Ten Tors pub in Kingsteignton.
