NEW CRICKET BOOK from Local Author
White Trousers and No Balls
White Trousers is a guide to cricket survival in the white heat of dressing room banter and pub chat. It shows how respect can be earned, bantering mastered and local talent impressed. This is a book that will change cricket and sex lives alike.

White Trousers reveals strategies for talking, dressing, batting, bowling and fielding that will avoid the humiliations that are so familiar to cricketers. It shows how ‘pro-talk’ and the language of the professional cricketer will allow the village player to walk tall in the Royal Oak and it deals with the ultimate test of the village cricketer’s character – the tour.

Village cricketers have to be as interested in survival as any red squirrel or endangered fish. Cricketers live in a jungle, just like them, and this book shows the way to come out on top.

Histories of Devon Cricket Clubs

THE purpose of this webpage is to enable those interested in the history of cricket in the ancient county of Devon to find publications (books and pamphlets) about individual clubs. A list of journal and magazine articles may be added at a later date.

Where the publication contains no table of contents, no effort has been made to count the number of illustrations, etc.

In some case full details are available, in others it is necessary to contact the club to discover basic information.

The present list is very much ‘off the top of the head' and the authors welcome a note   with as many details as possible of other histories of Devon cricket clubs. Out of print volumes should be included.

Please sent the information about other publications to Jeffrey Stanyer, whose contact details accompany the book on Exeter CC – the Great Survivor.

Publishing Information

As much information as possible is provided under the following headings, o that potential readers can decide whether a volume is worth consulting and perhaps purchasing.

In many cases some of the information will be missing or not known

   Name of author(s), editor(s) and or compiler(s).

How to obtain

If the book is listed as ‘out of print' then potential readers should explore second-hand bookshops, book sales, the Devon County Library system and appropriate private libraries, such as the Devon & Exeter Institution

Where no obvious contact is available, potential readers should get in touch with the secretary or other officer of the club concerned. The contact details for most of these can be found in the Devon League handbook.

New research & publication

Individuals and clubs considering or undertaking research with a view to publishing an official history can consult Jeffrey Stanyer about any aspects of the venture.

By CONRAD SUTCLIFFE

NUMEROUS books have been written about cricket - some of them by people with a passion for their clubs.

The history of cricket in Devon is full of surprises, as anyone who has researched a history of their club will know.

The object of this page is to put together a data base of books about Devon clubs and where they can be obtained if still available.

The editor, and his fellow enthusiast Jeff Stanyer, would welcome any books from any source for inclusion on this page.

In return we will reproduce an image from the book and put a contact link in place.

Both of us look forward to hearing from you.
