D Division round-up - Luffman eight short of century
HONITON hosted Feniton and went into the contest trailing their East Devon neighbours by five places and seven points in the D Division table. At stumps it was Feniton who had extended the gap courtesy of a seven wicket win. Skipper Kev Kelly top scored with an unbeaten 40 in a total of 122 all out as Russ Whitton (3-18) and John Pyle (3-26) claimed wickets. Former Honiton skipper Brian Cann, making his first return to Mountbatten Park since his last appearance in the club’s colours in 1999, hit an unbeaten 48 and Graeme Tucker was unbeaten on 42 when Feniton crossed the winning line.

Steve Luffman stroked a superb unbeaten 92 to lead Yelverton to their sixth win in eight D Division outings, a four wicket triumph at Halberton and Sampford Peverell. The Mid Devon side beaten just once prior to the game, batted first and were bowled out for 147 with only John Chilcott (25) and Joe Parkinson (24) making any impression with the bat. Three Yelverton players, W Chapman (3-17), Geoff Brain (3-28) and P Shore (3-30) shared the wicket taking duties. Home skipper Jeremy Turner then took 3-31, but it was the Luffman show post-tea as Yelverton raced to victory.

Just two points separated Seaton from hosts Filleigh at the start of play at Court Lane and post match that gap was extended by five points after Seaton took 13 points from a winning draw. Steven Pritchard (76) and Alex Hunt (41) put on 138 for the opening wicket helping set up the Seaton total of 193-6. Joe Berry then claimed 4-40 as Filleigh’s reply closed on 147-7.

Plymouth Civil Service & Roborough registered only a second success of the season with a five wicket home triumph over Countess Wear. The visitors batted first and were bowled out for just 91 with only Mark Davey making any headway with 37. No one else got into double figures, the second best with the bat was the nine from P Singh. Singh then took four of the five home wickets to fall in the successful run chase, he finished with 4-14 but B Wilkinson (35) and J Williams (24) combined to see their side to victory.

Whimple picked up their first win of the season with a seven wicket triumph at bottom side Cockington. Phil Hope took 4-20 in 13 splendid overs and Luke Whitton bagged a brace in a Cockington total of 109. Mike Searle then struck an unbeaten 48 and there was a knock of 47 from Dave Chamberlain as Whimple got home with seven wickets and plenty of overs to spare.
