Yelverton and Plymouth CS&R are in the box seats as the D Division promotion race heads to a conclusion.
Yelverton saw their second successive home match cancelled owing to a waterlogged outfield and were forced to sit back with the six points they got for their washed out meeting with Countess Wear and watch Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough, unbeaten since week two of the season, bank 18 pints after a 58-run win at home to Whimple.
The days biggest losers were Feniton who had their game at Filleigh fall foul of a waterlogged pitch and that left them finishing the day in fourth, having started it in second!
Seaton were also bemoaning their luck, although skipper Ben Morgan was delighted his charges had managed to salvage something from their East Devon derby with Honiton.
Honiton batted first and closed on 185-9. Seaton then slipped to 18-6 before 14-year-old Reid Maudsley hit his maiden senior cricket half century, finally out for 53 and Ben Copp chipped in with 37.
It was left to Morgan and Joe Berry to see out the final overs to secure what may yet prove to be a priceless pair of points from the losing draw.
Morgan said: “Who knows how crucial those two points will be in a fortnight’s time.
“At one stage we were looking dead and buried. Young Reid (Maudsley) batted superbly, it was a really gutsy knock and one well above his age!
The winning draw also helps Honiton’s cause at the other end of the table. They are now 22 points clear of the drop zone.
Skipper Kev Kelly is clear that it’s in his teams own hands: “This result will certainly help.
“We have a little more work to do, but I am very confident that we now have enough in our tank to see this season out and come back fighting in the same division next summer.”
Halberton and Sampford Peverell banked all 20-points without sending down a delivery as scheduled visitors Cockington were unable to raise a team for the visit to mid-Devon.
