YELVERTON sealed the D Division title with an eight-wicket win at relegated Cockington.
Paul Shaw and James Harrison were amongst the wickets as Cockington were bundled out for 105. Geoff Brain then hit a half century and Pat Hobbs was unbeaten on 29 when the win was confirmed.
Delighted skipper Richard Goldsby-West said: “We have earned this moment. We have played some very good consistent cricket this season and despite the best attempts of the weather to ruin things, I feel we are good value for top spot.
“As for next season it’s a great new challenge for us all and a chance for us to continue to lead this club back to the higher levels of the Devon Cricket League.
“We will look to bring in a couple of new faces to freshen things up, but if that were not forthcoming I would have no hesitation to go and play in the C Division with the current team we have here.”
Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough duly bagged the second promotion berth alongside champions Yelverton when they thumped an under-strength Filleigh by a whopping margin of 130 runs.
Whimple suffered relegation and will play next summer in the E Division after they lost their final game of the season at Seaton by 47 runs.
Phil Hope claimed 5-50 from a dozen fine overs as Seaton were restricted to 163-9. Home skipper Ben Morgan (34) and Steven Pritchard (28) were the principle scorers for the Court Lane outfit who then bowled Whimple out for 116.
Only Richard Brown with 34 made much progress as Morgan (3-20), Phil Collins (3-24) and Ben Copp (3-42) combined to great effect.
Whimple skipper Ben Silk said: “We will be back. We have not had a lot of luck this season and whilst I accept that the weather has hit us all hard the fact is we had two more cancellations that Countess Wear and one more than Honiton and both those sides finished just above us in the table.
Feniton ended their season on a high note with an eight-wicket win at Halberton and Sampford Peverell. The Feniton bowlers shared the wicket taking duties as the Mid Devon side were restricted to 177-7.
Skipper Mark Kingdon then crackled a superb 94, only out in the closing stages looking for the champagne shot that would have seen him register a deserved century!
John Pyle helped in the run chase with a rapid-fire 50 and an eight-wicket victory was wrapped up in just 20 overs!
Honiton’s D Division survival had been secured the week before and there was a distinctive end-of-term feel about their seven-wicket defeat at home to Countess Wear.
The Exeter side needed the points to make sure they would play this particular fixture again next summer in the same division.
Pete Matravers top scored with 42 for Honiton and there was a long and laboured knock of 13 from Wayne Broome as Honiton were bowled out for 143. Countess Wear lost just three wickets in the successful run chase.
