Leaders Yelverton had their winning start ended at Seaton where the home side claimed a five wicket win.
Phil Collins (3-27) and skipper Ben Morgan (3-40) were supported by Joe Berry and Ben Copp who each bagged a brace of wickets as the table toppers were bowled out for 181. Richard West top scored with 57
A 61 run partnership for the fifth wicket between Mike Wheeler (54no) and Matt Hancock (45no) which followed earlier runs from John Waterhouse (31) saw Seaton over the line.
A delighted Morgan said: “It was a deserved success. We bowled and fielded very well and then ran the run chase at a decent pace. The team have now shown the standard I am keen for us to repeat on a consistent basis and I would like to think, certainly at home, we will maintain this level of commitment and application.”
Feniton banked maximum points from a seven wicket success at Countess Wear where skipper Mark Kingdon led from the front.
Kingdon claimed figures of 6-48 as the Exeter side were bowled out 173.
Skipper Peter Darke top scored with 52 and James Bogue chipped in with 45.
Kingdon then hit a century to lead his side to an empathic triumph.
With the weather looking set to close in Kingdon asked his batsmen to get home quickly and he led from the front with a knock of 106 as he and Graham Tucker (49no) put on 145 for the third wicket. Kingdon fell with victory six runs shy, Charlie Selley was the other not out batsman at the close. Kingdon said: “I told the lads that perhaps we ought to approach the run chase as a Twenty20 style game and that’s just what we did. It was great for me on a personal level, but I am just one of a team that is all doing its job at the moment.”
Honiton were looking set to bank another win at basement side Cockington when the weather closed in. George Meadows hit an unbeaten 61 and skipper Kev Kelly struck a defiant 38 as Honiton were bowled out for 165. J Allen took 4-27 for then hosts who were on a perilous 75-6 when rain finally drove the players into the pavilion. Pete Tansley took 4-42 and the skipper weighed in with a pair. Kelly said: “George (Meadows) batted superbly on what was, in my humble opinion a dangerous batting strip. We were very fortunate to come away having seen nobody hurt on that surface.”
Filleigh banked a dozen points from an abandoned home meeting with Whimple. Simon Prideaux (84) and Rob Collier (51) led the North Devon side to 295-8 and Whimple were 60-2 when the rain struck.
Halberton and Sampford Peverell were 46 without loss on their way towards Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough offering of 170-9 when the rain cut short proceedings in Plymouth. Rob Walker and Chris Sanders both hit knocks of 29 for the hosts whilst Jeremy Turner was the pick of the Mid Devon sides bowling with 5-29. Kev Fever (22) and Dan Coles (13) were the visiting batsmen at then crease when the weather ended things.
