D East: Tons of runs at Countess Wear

D DIVISION EAST 2nd XI

THERE were a pair of maiden centuries struck in the Countess Wear II meeting with Kentisbeare II. First it was 15-year old John Farley who hit an unbeaten 109, adding 126 for the opening Kents' wicket with his father Gary (69). Skipper Tom Wilkinson chipped in with 25 as the Mid Devon side closed on 256-7.

Gary Spragg and Dave Sapiecha both took a couple of wickets for Countess Wear who were led to an eight wicket victory by a maiden ton from Martin Bovey (110no) whilst Steve Middleton chipped in with 94 – the pair adding 193 for the opening wicket. Dave Squire and Dave Bunker both bagged braces of wickets for the Kents.

Leaders Whimple II were beaten for the third time this term, and the third time in five weeks when they lost by 92 runs at neighbouring Feniton II. Ben Allen (75) and Steve Haysom (73) led the Acland Park outfit to 208-5.

Kev Brandon took two wickets for Whimple who were then bowled out for 146 with only Simon Van Grudgings (46), skipper Barry Wright (27) and Will Bardot (17) making much of an impression as Francis Pyle (2-22) and Ben Allen (2-25) claimed wickets.

Honiton II climbed right back into the promotion picture with a 117 run win at Uplyme and Lyme Regis II. Tom Strawbridge hit a sparkling unbeaten 123 and there were contributions from Joe Dixon (76) and Craig Lapping (34) in the Honiton offering of 284-6 declared. Andy Brinsford then took 5-24 as Uplyme were bowled out for 167.

Exmouth III did very well to take a losing draw from their meeting with high flying North Devon III. Bob Heaman (49), Robert Mann (37) and James Green (35) combined to help the North Devon to 177. Ross Jarvis (4-49), Elliot Marks (3-41) and Sean Butler (2-17) were the Exmouth wicket takers.

Jarvis then hit the tops core of 28 in the reply but the main reason for Exmouth denying North Devon another victory was a stubborn partnership between the Dawe father and son pairing.

Ollie Dawe finished unbeaten on 24 whilst dad Mark hit a valuable 20 and it was left to Steve Bolt (1no) to help young Dawe see the side to a draw.

Sam Pomeroy took 4-24 for North Devon.
