BRADNINCH are gunning for holders Sidmouth today in the first round of the Devon Cup.While Bradninch will be without spin-bowling all-rounder Matt Golding, who is with Devon against Cornwall,, skipper Gary Chappell feels they can turf our Sidmouth.
Sidmouth have Josh Bess on Devon duty and Chappell believes he will be missed more than Golding.
‘Not having Bess is a massive blow for Sidmouth,’ said Chappell.
‘Sidmouth have got a strong batting side but, without Bessy, hopefully we can attack their bowling.’
Chappell has said before he fancies Bradninch’s chances of winning the cup, but admits he is not impressed by the format of the competition and has asked organisers to consider a rethink.
‘I believe it should be seeded as we are playing Sidmouth, and Exmouth are playing Bovey next week, which means two of the best teams in the county going out in the first round,’ said Chappell.
Premier strugglers Heathcoat go to B Divison Barton where they will be favourites to come away winners.
‘We did well in the cup last year and are looking for a repeat performance,’ said skipper Chris Small.
‘We won’t be underestimating Barton, but will be looking for a victory and progression to the quarters finals.’
Cornwood have a derby date with Plymstock which skipper Craig Harris is eager to get under way.
With fielding circles in place, Harris is looking to use the restrictions to Cornwood’s advantage.
‘I am hoping to make the most of the restrictions and play confident cricket to maximise our scoring,’ said Harris.
