DEVON are on their way back to County Ground in Exeter for a Minor Counties Championship game for the first time in 25 years.
Exeter will be hosting the game against Dorset on August 5, 6 and 7 having replaced Torquay Recreation Ground on the county fixture list.
Torquay has lost its fixture after a disappointing pitch report in 2011.
The Recreation Ground hosted the game against Cheshire in July, which Devon won on by three wickets. Exeter’s Rob Holman struck a match-winning 38 in the second innings of a low-scoring game to see the county home.
Umpires Geoff Callaway and Roger Tolchard gave the ground low marks, in the wake of which Devon have switched to Exeter for one of their three home games this season.
Devon have used the County Ground for occasional fixtures in recent years. They were last there in 2010 to play Wales in the MCCA Cup.
The last Minor Counties game on the ground was against Wiltshire, that ended in a draw.
Exeter chairman Bob Price said the club was delighted to be asked to host a game and paid tribute to groundsman Andy Ellett for the work he has done improving the playing surface.
“The work Andy has put in has gone way beyond the call of duty,” said Price.
“The ground looks fantastic and the square is recognised as one of the best in Devon.
“It is nice for the club to make the County Ground a ground for the county again.”
Devon begin their defence of the Minor Counties title won last season with a home game against Wales at Exmouth on June 10-12. Their other home fixture is against Hereford at Sidmouth.
The Minor Counties KO Cup group games start away to Hertfordshire on April 22.
