DEVON have been forced to make a late change to the squad for today's 50-over friendly against Cardiff MCCU at Torquay (11am).
Torquay all-rounder Nick Watkin has been forced to pull out of the squad and has been replaced by Braunton's Harry Booker.
The Lions - now in their third year - are Devon's development squad and have a number of fixtures against university and First Class 2nd XI opposition this season.
The Lions recently lost a T20 game to Oxfordshire MCCU, but coach Tim Western said the result was largely irrelevant.
'The results of Lions' fixtures are not as important as the process, which sees players tested outside their comfort zone," said Western
'The aim is to prepare players, who have desire, for Minor Counties' cricket. These fixtures provide the environment for emerging players to represent their county and to showcase their talents at a higher level.
'This is an excellent fixture, similar to Oxford MCCU, whereby the best emerging players in Devon will be overloaded and challenged by what will undoubtedly be a strong Cardiff MCCU team.
Bovey Tracey's Peter Bradley, whose brother captains the full county team, will lead the Lions.
'Peter is doing great job leading Bovey Tracey at the moment and I am interested to see how he works with players from different clubs,' said Western.
Bradley, whose brother, Chris captains the senior side, said he never imagined he would get the chance to lead any county team and is relishing the opportunity.
'One of the good things about the Lions is it gives players a chance with the county set up if they do well in the league, which must be why I am in,' said Bradley.
'I have been given a good side to captain - some old heads like myself, Josh Bess and Ryan Bougourd - plus some exciting young players.
'What everyone has to remember is playing in a game like this a great chance to show what you can do against better opposition than you are used to.
'It is about doing a job for the team, not batting 100 balls for 40 because it looks good in the scorebook.'
Sidmouth Josh Bess has been picked to provide added firepower to the bowling line up and to get some extra practice ahead of a busy June for the senior side. He will open the bowling with Budleigh's Matt Plowman.
