Woodbury roll out 'Green' carpet
WOODBURY are rolling out the GREEN carpet to celebrate the installation of a new artificial pitch at their Town Lane ground.

The old non-turf pitch was showing its age and has been replaced by a new one costing £9,400.

Devotec of Feniton supplied and laid the new surface, which was paid for thanks to help from the Lord’s Taverners and FWS Carter & Sons from, a landfill company based in the village.

Carter & Sons chipped in with a hefty grant ot £5,436 from the Landfill Communities Fund while the Taverner;s topped up the appeal with another £3,000.

The Premier Cricket Pitch features a 30m Superverde Wilton woven carpet with a shockpad underneath on an aggregate base.

The most appropriate way to celebrate laying the new pitch is by playing a game on it!

On Thursday, May 24 at 6pm, Woodbury willl entertain a team made up from businesses on the nearby Greendale Business Park, where Carter & Sons is based.

Andy Hannan, the chairman of Woodbury, said having an artificial pitch in good condition is vital to the club.

“Woodbury CC relies heavily on the use of its artificial pitch for training and coaching sessions as well as matches for both juniors and adults,” said Hannan.

“The teams will do their best to live up to the T20 cricket tradition by providing plenty of excitement with lots of boundaries to cheer.”

A bar will be available. There is no entry charge for spectators. The game begins at 6 pm.

Woodbury are one of a number of clubs all over Devon to benefit from an LCF grant.

South West England Environmental Trust, the charity running the fund, encourages and enables landfill operators to support a wide range of environmental and community projects by allowing them tax credits on up to 5.6 per cent of the landfill taxes due.
