Devon’s Ladies cricketers face Durham this coming Sunday in a must won match which should they come out on top will ensure that they retain their status in Division 2 of the ECB County Championship. A season that promised much has been blighted by injury to key players, notably skipper Jodie Dibble and Hazelle Garton, coupled with this the unavailability of players at critical times has seen the side go from being a promotion contender at the start of the season to a side fighting to see off relegation. The girls have ran into form at the right time however, having won their T20 group last month to move back into Division 1 South and West for 2014. Coupled with that an unbeaten season for several members of the side who are also part of the U17 squad and the side can rightly go into the fixture full of confidence. An added bonus is the return to the side of last season’s leading wicket taker, Hazelle Garton who will add some much needed experience to the side in addition to her left arm spin. The squad selected is below:
Rosalie Birch (c) – Bovey Tracey
Amara Carr (w/k) – Plympton
Aylish Cranstone – Shepperton
Rebecca Bertrand – unattached
Alli Kelly – North Devon
Cait O’Keefe – Plympton
Pip Taylor – ACT Meteors
Jessie Jones – Plympton
Emily Ward – Filleigh
Rebecca Donohue – Plympton
Hazelle Garton – Plympton and Royal Navy
Charlotte Phillips –Plympton
The match takes place at Sidmouth this coming Sunday, 1100 start, supporters are very welcome. In addition the Women will have a warm up match at Exmouth this coming Friday against an MCC XI which includes former England international Clare Taylor.
