SRI Lankan seamer Dhanuja Haturusingha should reach 300 Devon League wickets this season when he returns to play for Clyst Hydon.
Haturusingha first played for Clyst Hydon in 2007 and has returned almost every year since, apart from 2009 and 2012 to play for the club.
Last season’s 44-wicket haul took Haturusingha to 285 league victims so far.
New skipper Oz Besley – he has taken over the reigns from Ian Sutton – said despite approaches from other clubs in the league Haturusingha is quite happy staying where he is.
“We know he has had approaches from Premier and A Division clubs, but ‘Dan; wants to stay with us,” said Besley.
“Back home he plays First Class cricket, which is a serious business with plenty of pressure to perform.
“Playing for us there is no pressure on him, which probably wouldn’t be the case in the Premier Division.
“He has said he will be here for the first game of the season, raring to go.
“We are just glad he keeps coming back to us…”
Sutton led the side for three seasons, but chose to stand down this year after becoming a father for the first time.
Besley, who has skippered the 1st and 2nd XIs at former club Clyst St George, said he is filling in for a year in anticipation of Sutton resuming next season.
“Basically, he is a new dad and wants the year off,” said Besley.
“I have filled in for him a couple of times in the past and have said I will give it a year and see where we go at the end of it.”
Clyst have been placed in the C Division West following league reorganisation during the winter and Besley would like to think they can mount a promotion challenge this term.
“We finished very strongly in fourth last season and if we can get a better start we should be up there again,” said Besley.
