Disability Cricket Open Day
Save the Date - Saturday 10th January
10am - 12:00am @ Devon Cricket Centre, Training Room, Exeter University

Devon Cricket are delighted to announce an open morning for Disability Cricket on Saturday 10th January. The idea of the event is to help new people to get involved in the disability organsation within the county and to model / showcase what cricket has on offer to disabled athletes. Devon has a some outstanding role models to aspire to, with the likes of Stephen George of Paignton CC and George Greenway of Exeter CC both representing the England Deaf XI over the last 12months. The former also won the ECB Disability Cricketer of the Year 2014 which was a fantastic achievement. (See the YouTube Clip below)

No matter if you have a disability or not please come along and find out what there is on offer and to get involved in.  Cricket has a vast amount to offer people with disabilities whether it be Table Cricket to the on-field game, however it's not just about playing the game.  Umpiring, scoring and coaching are integral to the success of disability cricket.

We already have a vibrant Table Cricket pathway in Devon, working in partnership with Active Devon.  Regular Table Cricket events take place at venues around the county, helping to engage local schools and communities.  Devon also host the regional Table Cricket finals which brings the best table cricketers from throughout the region to Devon. We would be committed to engaging new people new people into Table Cricket! Could this be for you? Maybe running your own team, taking part, helping out with organising, or even umpiring and scoring a match might appeal to you. Our on-field county team last competed in 2013 as the Devon Disability XI, and enjoyed a successful season.  Devon Cricket would to offer this opportunity again, and are willing to resource and support this team once again.  However we need your support for this to happen, and to help drive and take this aspiration forwards. If you want to be involved then attend our open morning at the Devon Cricket Centre on the 10th January!

Disability Cricket in schools is supported by Chance to Shine delivery and also the David Shepherd Cricket Trust, the Devon based charity which supports all levels of youth cricket throughtout the county.  The charity's support has been very effective for us and we have managed to work with 8 specialist schools around the county over the past twenty four months. This has then led into an annual Disability Cricket Festival day run at Bovey Tracey CC in June. (Pictured Left:- 'Cricket chaos' at Bovey in June)

With ever increasing numbers of schools participating in this event we would be delighted to find further support to grow this further. If that is you then, please make yourself known and come along on the 10th.

Be inspired, this could be you playing in England colours one day, realise your potential and come and get involved on 10th January. You never know what you can achive until you give it a go!
