Dumplings hand out a hiding to Incogniti

THE biggest match of the Dumplings’ season took place at Queen’s College, Oxford, against Incogniti, this being the 83rd game played between the two clubs

The Incogs are celebrating their 150th anniversary with, in addition their normal cricket and golf fixtures, a tour to Australia and a cricket week in Oxford.

The Dumplings participated in the latter, along with other prestigious clubs such as the Royal Navy, Cross Arrows and MCC.

The Dumplings travelled with a strong side for what was anticipated to be powerful opposition, and were accompanied by the President, Peter Jolliffe, and more than a dozen supporters.

The Dumplings elected to bat first in excellent conditions and rattled up 162 for 4 in 31 overs by the lunch break, with Richard Ashworth (54), Callum Still (55).

In the afternoon session an unbroken stand of 75 in ten overs between David Jolliffe (20 not out) and Peter Hensor (44 not out) raised the score to 287 for 6.

The declaration came after 53 overs immediately after Hensor had clubbed 19 off 5 balls.

The Incogs struggled against the Dumpling’s attack and were dismissed in 31 overs for a disappointing total of only 90, the Dumplings winning by the massive margin of 197 runs just before the start of the scheduled last 20 overs.

Veteran Bernie Wilson was the bowling star with a spell of 3 for 10 in 8 overs. Steve Bourke had 2 for 5, Peter Hensor 2 for 22 and David Jolliffe 2 for 40.
