ENGLAND newcomer Bob Eames cracked a match-winning 80 at the top of the order as Devon O60s hurtled into the last four of the National Competition on the back of a five-wicket win over Hampshire at Hursley Park CC near Winchester.Eames’ form for Devon this season has earned him selection to play for England O60s against Australia at New Rover CC, Leeds this Friday.
Hampshire, who chose to bat first, were 120 for two with 15 overs to go and set for a big score.
While Eames - nine overs for 22 runs at one end - kept Hants quite, Graham Darke (3-37) was working through them at the other.
A final total of 182 for seven never really looked enough - and Eames made sure it wasn't. By the time he was out the target was 23 to win and the game long over.
Tom Overthrow hit a quickfire 52 not out off 67 balls as Devon clinched victory with 11 balls to spare.
Devon will be at home to Cheshire at Sandford in the semi-finals on August 23.
