East Divisions 2nd XI round-up: News from D &E

EAST 2nd XI

D DIVISION

It was all over in a hurry at Countess Wear II where Dave Harkness thumped a six to bring up victory for the Exeter aside at the expense of Upottery II.

Carl Downes took 4-26 from 13 excellent overs and John Bendle also claimed 3-14 from 5 overs.

Adrian Nash was late arriving having played hockey in the morning and so was denied a chance to bowl till late on and still managed to bag 2-3 from a little more than two overs as Upottery were bowled out for 101.

Martin Bovey was then unbeaten on 46 as he watched Harkness (20no) seal victory in the 25th over.

Uplyme and Lyme Regis II were eight-wicket winners at Feniton. Michael Holding (3-19) and John Rattenbury (3-042) reduced the Acland Park side to 118 all out. Kevin Brandon (29) and Connor Toogood (18) were the only home batsmen to prosper. Griffiths then hit an unbeaten 46 as the visiting side breezed to an eight-wicket win.

E DIVISION

Seaton II were empathic winners at Topsham St James II where Chris Aplin’s unbeaten 63 led them to 127.

Toby Tucker struck the best of then rest with a knock of 21 whilst Dave Gambie claimed 5-14 for the Tops. Pete Lawson (5-22) and Ian Hunt (3-7) then led Seaton to a comfortable victory as the final Bonfire Field wicket of the day fell at 44 to see Seaton to a second successive early season win.

Alan Broomfield hit an unbeaten 138 to lead Halberton & Sampford Peverell II to 204-7 at Axminster III.

Emily Broad was the star of the show for the Cloakham Lawn side as she claimed 3-39. The teenager was then also responsible for her side’s second highest individual contribution in the reply.

However, Broad’s knock of four was bettered only by one of six not out from Zac Harwood as Axminster were skittled out for 33.

Kilmington II had just eight players for their home game with Exeter Civil Service II. Michael Micklethwait (2-41), Dave Lavender (2-44) and skipper Ash Cook (2-54) combined to restrict the 11-man visitors to 192-8.

Then Roland Stonex (35), skipper Cook (37no) and Martin Huscroft (27no) led the eight men to an unlikely seven-wicket success with the winning line crossed at 195-3.

Mike Denford sent down 13 overs and returned the outstanding figures of 4-4 – ten of his overs were maidens, as Thorverton II bundled out hosts Cheriton Fitzpaine II for just 53.

G Cross then made short work of seeing the Thors to a ten wicket win as he thumped an unbeaten 47 to see the win confirmed inside six overs.
