E DIVISION EAST

In the E Division East they completed the game at Cloakham Lawns where Axminster III were beaten by nine wickets by Topsham St James II. Sam Dibling (25) and Emily Broad (19) were the principle scorers for the hosts in a total of 69 all. Brian Jury was the architect-in-chief of their downfall as he claimed 5-27, supported superbly by Rupert Pratt’s shift that produced figures of 4-14. Aaron Clarke wasted no time striking an unbeaten 48 to lead the visitor’s to a nine wickets win. Zac Harwood was the one successful Axminster bowler.

They also completed the match at Seaton where Thorverton III’s managed to nudge their way to a losing draw, though not with sufficient runs to bag the brace of points for a share of the spoils. The game started late owing to the weather and was played at 30-overs-per-side. It was a family affair for the home side with father and son combination of skipper Ian Hunt and son Alex putting on 69 for the opening wicket. Senior went first for 23, but the younger Hunt went on to strike yet another half century, finally out for 60. The 17-year-old has now scored 189 runs in his last three innings for twice out. Chris Aplin gave the inning some real late impetus with a pair of 6s in his cameo knock of 21 not out and Seaton closed in their 30-overs on 142-5.

The visitors then found themselves four down with just single on the board after an early blitz from 15-year-old James Thomas who took three wickets in one over on his way to impressive figures of six overs, three maidens and four wickets for four runs!

Pete Lawson and Ollie Aplin also claimed wickets and there were two run outs, one completed b y young Thomas and the other by James Prior as Thorverton limped to 60-8 in their 30 overs. Teenager Jack Sterling produced the most impressive of the efforts for the Thors taking 2-26 and then top scoring with 15.

They managed half a game at Landspeed Meadow, Cullompton where Kilmington got to 179-6 in 41.4 overs when the rain set in. Les Baker hit 60 and skipper Ash Cook an unbeaten 46. Young Todd Scrase claimed 2-32 and there was a brace of wickets also for Will Bowles. Cullompton II have now suffered more weather woes than most, four of their seven games so far have either not been played or met a premature, watery end!

Just 35 overs were played at Sampford Peverell where hosts Halberton were 134-4 in their meeting with Exeter Civil Service II when the weather ensured a premature halt.
