GAME of the day in Division One of the Island Cricket Exeter T20 saw near-neighbours Bradninch and Clyst Hydon play out a dramatic tie at Kensham Park.Bradninch batted first and were grateful for a patient 51no by Greg Maher to post 107-4 in 20 overs, on a damp wicket. Will Greig and Oli Dawe took two wickets each for Clyst.
In reply, the visitors looked to be cruising after Ian Sutton opened up with 39 and Clint Lewis chipped in with 31.
But Will Squire (4-23) oversaw a dramatic middle order collapse which left Bradninch looking the more likely victors.
Clyst required 12 to win off Gary Chappell’s final over of the game, which saw Dawe smash a quick cameo of 10no to make things interesting before he and last-man Paul Garnham scrambled a leg-bye off the last ball to leave things all square!
The league table looks just as tight, with leaders Exeter a single point ahead of the entire chasing pack!
In Division Two, Topsham St James kept up the pressure on leaders Alphington with a 65-run win at home to Cullompton.
Opener Sam Skinner anchored Topsham’s 187-3 with 82no, supported well by Nick Horne with 50.
In reply, Cully started steadily through Craig Hawkins (27) & Adam Field (20), but fell behind the rate despite Mark Ashplant’s 31 to finish on 122-5.
Horne followed up his half-century by taking 2-22 for the home side.
Met Office & Exwick were involved in the evening’s other close finish, with the Weathermen prevailing by three runs.
Met Office’s Rami Yedidi scored exactly half his side’s runs, finishing with 82 as the home side posted 164-9.
Pete Rowe, Lewis Cox and Derek Jenkins all managed two wickets apiece for Exwick.
The visitors put up a brave fight on the chase thanks to Kris Calderhead (46), Tood Dawe (36) and Howard Rose (21).
But man of the match Yedidi (4-28) was to ensure they came up just short.
