England players to coach Devon age groups
England captain Charlotte Edwards and World Cup winner Caroline Atkins have been confirmed as the coaches who will deliver sessions to Devon County girls teams and the senior side in December at The Sir Christopher Ondaatje Devon Cricket Centre.
Charlotte has played 213 times for England in all formats of the game, making her debut when she was just 16. She averages 49 in tests and 36 in ODIs and scored her latest hundred on the recent tour to South Africa. Caroline has played 86 times for her country and her top score of 145 came in a record breaking opening stand of 268 with Sarah Taylor against South Africa at Lords. To have players of such a high calibre coaching in Devon will be a huge boost to the county.
The coaching will take place over two days, the 19th & 20th December and will see close to 100 of Devon's most talented women and girls benefitting from the skills of the all conquering England duo. Devon under 13, 15 and 17 girls teams as well as the senior side will each receive a three hour coaching session. Charlotte will also deliver a captaincy workshop to young players in the county on the evening of the 19th. The final coaching session to be delivered by Charlotte will be a one-to-one coaching session to the lucky winner of a
DCB Facebook competition (to be launched late November).
Warren Carr, Devon Women's coach was understandably, extremely excited about the two day event. 'This is a wonderful opportunity for all the players who will be involved. Receiving support and advice from any England captain would be fantastic but Charlotte is so well respected within the game as a batter and captain we would not have wished for anyone else'.
It is not the first time that the duo have coached in the Devon, both played major part in the success of a
girls only summer camp hosted in the summer of 2010. The summer camp was aimed at girls starting the sport, this will be the first time that Charlotte and Caroline have coached the Devon age groups and the senior side. Several of the girls who will be coached as part of a Devon age group attended the summer camp in 2010 and have developed into county players since.
Caroline and Charlotte are both coaching ambassadors for
Chance to Shine and their visit is possible thanks to support from
Chance to Shine and the Devon Cricket Board.
