Shobrooke 'win' off last ball then concede game!
THE spirit of cricket was the winner at Clyst Hydon where Shobrooke Park arrived with only seven players.

Clyst batted first, but loaned the visitors four fielders whilst posting 155-6 from their 20 overs. Skipper Ian Sutton made 29, with runs down the order from Hefin Wood (37) and Chris Jelley (44no).

In reply, Shobrooke opener Justin Dollow scored 22, before a blitz from Manny Parmakellis who blasted a quickfire 86 not out.

Parmakellis received good support from Richard Pyle (24), but came down to the final ball of the match needing five to win. The Australian launched unfortunate bowler Will Greig out of the ground to seal a stunning victory, but Shobrooke generously conceded the match points in response to the home side providing substitute fielders.

Julian Clapper was the pick of Clyst’s bowling with 2-22.

In Division Two, the match of the day was at the Met Office, where the weathermen won by one run against Newton St. Cyres.

Met Office’s total of 144-9 was built around Ramindra Yedidi’s 52, C Frost chipping in with 21. George Savage took 4-27 for St. Cyres.

The visitors’ Ben Ireson also opened up with 52 & Leighton Dayman made 42 as St. Cyres looked well set on the chase. But Yedidi returned with the ball (3-28) to ensure they were to fall agonisingly short.

Exeter U21s batted first at Alphington and Sam Reddick (49) helped them to 114-5 from their 20 overs. It proved not to be enough – Alphington made it over the line with seven balls and four wickets to spare thanks to Ben Morris (30) and Nick Ainscough (25), despite the best efforts of Exeter’s Joe Fanous (5-16).

Clyst Hydon 155-6 (C.Jelley 44no, H.Wood 37, I.Sutton 29, M.Parmakellis 2-31). Shobrooke Park 157-4 (M.Parmakellis 86no, R.Pyle 24, J.Dollow 22, J.Clapper 2-22). Shobrooke Park won by 6wkts.
