THERE were victories for Alphington and Topsham St James as Division Two of the Island Cricket Exeter T20 League got under way last week.
Alphas hosted Newton St Cyres and posted 145-5 from their 20 overs. Anthony Shepherd top scored with 49, supported by opener Ben Morris (36).
Talha Wahid was the pick of the visitors bowling with a tidy 2-11.
St Cyres were unable to get going against the miserly Tom Bath (2-13) and Ben Newcombe (2-8), eventually being bowled out for 74 with just three balls remaining.
Ben Ireson (23) was the only batsman to offer any resistance.
Exeter U21s went down to a nail-biting home defeat to Topsham St James in their first game.
The juniors batted first and made 109-7, Marcus Hoddinott (34) and Ben Green (24) top scoring for the County Ground side. Ross Treleaven picked up 3-25 for St James from his five overs.
The visitors were also grateful to Treleaven (16no) with the bat as he and Matt Collins saw Topsham St James to victory with a boundary off the penultimate ball of the innings.
Ben Ward (48) and Will Pratt (26) earlier laid the platform against 2-16 from Marcus Hoddinott.
