Exmouth stick with Baggs
EXMOUTH are sticking with Richard Baggs as skipper after he led them to second-place in the Premier Division last season.

It was Exmouth’s best finish in the top flight since 2005 when they finished runners-up behind Paignton.

Baggs was voted back into place at the club’s annual meeting, held in the pavilion recently.

And he is already looking to strengthen the squad with a couple of new signings for the 2013 season.

Two of the players in Baggs’ sights have played for Devon in the past couple of seasons, although for now he isn’t saying who they are.

“Neither have told their present clubs they are leaving yet and it would be disrespectful to announce they are coming at this stage,” said Baggs.

Already on board as player-coach for 2013 is former Devon keeper-batsman and Budleigh Salterton captain Sandy Allen.

Michael Collinge (left) becomes 2nd XI captain for the first time, but otherwise changes were kept to a minimum with Tom Sampford reappointed as 3rd XI skipper.

The main officers of the club – Richard Butler (chairman) and Jim Wood (president) – remain the same.

New appointments include Debbie Austin as welfare officer, Lucy Davies as social chairman and Trevor Anning as ground chairman.

Looking to the future, chairman Butler outlined significant changes for 2013, including new arrangements for Friday night colts’ sessions under Allen and the setting up of a new colts committee.

Members were told the club is in the process of completing three significant funding bids to the Olympics Inspired Facilities Fund, Landfill Tax and the ECB.

If successful, the money will provide new showers, disabled facilities, new umpires’ room in the pavilion, a new 3-bay outdoor nets and enable major works to improve the main square.

In recognition of their extraordinary support and service for the club, special thanks were given to Anne Blong and Nigel Sampson.

John Humphries was elected as an honorary vice-president and Peggy Browning a life member.

Exmouth’s annual dinner and awards evening takes place at the Royal Beacon this Saturday night.
