Exmouth land £50,000 grant for ground improvements

Exmouth have secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £150 million Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country.

Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark - celebrating the link to the Games.

Exmouth Cricket Club will receive £49,952 of National Lottery funding to upgrade the changing facilities at the club for both players and umpires and also provide an accessible disabled toilet.

Exmouth Cricket Club is committed to continue to provide early cricket opportunities to all age groups, both boys and girls from the local schools and community whilst ensuring our adult teams have access to a high standard of facilities in order to continue their success.

Sport England’s chair, Richard Lewis, said: “This National Lottery investment will create a lasting sporting legacy for Devon.”

“This fund has really hit the mark with sports clubs in the South West. It shows we’re offering the legacy that people want for their local community.

“For hundreds of clubs and tens of thousands of people, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were the reason for their local sports facilities to get better.”

Club chairman, Richard Butler said that “ I am really pleased that the Olympic legacy is coming to Exmouth and that members and visitors to the club will be able to enjoy the benefits of the improved facilities.

“In particular, the new heating system will save both energy and money and the new toilets will improve disabled access.”

Local MP, Hugo Swire said “This is excellent news and is exactly the sort of project that the National Lottery and Sport England should be supporting.

“Hopefully it will encourage more local people of all ages to participate in this great game.”

Places People Play is being delivered by Sport England, working in partnership with the British Olympic Association (BOA) with the backing of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the London 2012 Inspire mark.
