EXMOUTH skipper Richard Baggs is confident his Premier Division winners will be stronger than ever in 2014.
Baggs steered Exmouth to their first Premier title since 1999 last season, finishing 14 points clear of deposed champions Sidmouth.
Fast-bowling all-rounder Mark Orchard has returned to A Division Brixham for the summer ahead but otherwise there are more arrivals than departures lined up for the Maer Ground club.
Aussie seamer Antony Radunovich is on his way back for a second stint three years after a previous spell with the club.
Baggs (pictured) expects to have Chris Metters and Andy Buzza available all season, rather than picking them up along the way.
And with some 2nd XI signings in the pipeline – no names yet until the paperwork is done – Baggs is optimistic looking at the season ahead.
“It is a shame ‘Scrumpy’ (Mark Orchard) has gone back to Brixham but the travelling was getting him down and I understand his reasons,” said Baggs.
“We will miss his all-round contribution, but not too badly with Radunovich on his way back to us.
“He is playing in Western Australia at South Perth with Blake Reed, who was with Exeter last season and all the reports are he is a much-improved player now.
“We were stronger when Metters and Buzza started playing halfway through last season – and they will be available from the start this time.
“And I am expecting big things of Finlay Marks, who is going out to South Africa with Devon U15 next month, and Ollie Dawe.
“Most people recognize Ollie’s name for playing rugby for Exeter Chiefs, but he is a decent all-rounder who comes from Exmouth and has gone through our 3rd & 2nd XIs.
“I can see him getting a chance in the 1st XI this year.
“There are one or two players we may lose, but overall we look stronger all round, especially with some depth arriving for the 2nd XI.
“The 2nd XI were promoted last season and it is important to keep them in Premier Two, rather than dropping back into the A Division again.”
