F Division
The F Division game between Culmstock and Babbacombe had a predictable outcome! Both sides went into the game having suffered seven washouts between them so far this soggy season and they now have five and four abandonments/cancellations to their name. Table topping Babbacombe were left cursing the rain intervention this time – their fourth of the campaign for the Mid Devon hosts were 98-7 staring down the barrel in light of Babbacombe’s 229-8. Steve Broad (42) and Tim Goodwin (41no) top scored for the leaders. Marcus Busch (3-46) and John Pyle (3-65) were the principle wicket takers. Spencer Popham then hit 23 and Will Gingell was unbeaten on 22 when the rain arrived to save Culmstock. Goodwin had 3-8 and Dave Palmer 3-13 for frustrated Babbacombe.
Yarcombe gained four points on leaders Babbacombe with an 18 point haul from a 64 run win at Chardstock. T Patch top scored with 53 in the Yarcombe offering of 165-9. Chardstock skipper James Hayden claimed 4-44 and there was a splendid nine overs from Ian Blackwell that saw him return the eye-catching figures of 1-3! The skipper then struck his sides top score of 18 not out as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Stuart Parris chipped in with 15, but the final wicket was lost with the reply on 101.
Exeter Civil Service were six wicket home winners over Cheriton Fitzpaine. The Cherries batted first and limped to 115-8 with Grant Squire top scoring with 34. Lee Elston (3-45) and Kris Calderhead (2-11) were then main wicket takers. Civil Service skipper Vic Murphy then hit an unbeaten 53 to lead his side to a six wicket win. Lee Elston completed a fine individual all-round effort with 30 before he was run out.
The earliest finish of the day was at Newton St Cyres where Kingskerswell were nine wicket winners before 4.30pm! Phil Denham was the top scorer with 12 in the Mid Devon side’s humble offering of 51 as Paul Harding claimed 5-11. Mark Andrews then hit an unbeaten 25 as Kingskerswell raced to victory. Jack Withers (1-11) was the sole successful home bowler.
There was no play at Chelston where a water logged pitch prevented any play in the scheduled match against Woodbury.
