Woodbury end long wait for a win

F DIVISION

WOODBURY landed their first win since 2010 when they triumphed by 44 runs at home to Cullompton.

Jimmy Jones (30) and James Watson (29) gave the Woods a great start putting g on 75 for the opening wicket. However, the wickets tumbled at regular intervals, then final one falling on 107.

After the openers, and apart from a whopping 37 extra’s, the third highest contribution with the bat was an unbeaten six from Martin Cook! However, that proved to be more than enough once Woodbury skipper Kevin Miller picked up the ball!

The mid-Devon side looked on their way to victory at 32-1, but then Miller took centre stage and claimed six wickets for just 11 runs in 6.4 overs as the visitors were skittled out for 63.

Vic Murphy plundered the games top score with a knock of 76 to lead Exeter Civil Service to a 111-run home win over Chardstock. Murphy got support from Ray Gransall (31) as they closed on 190.

Will Parris took 4-41 for the East Devon side who then lost all their ten wickets for just 79. Prince Xavier was the most successful Civil bowler with 3-4 from six overs.

Newton St Cyres had been without action for a month since a pre-season game and their inactivity showed as they were bowled out for 105 at home to Cheriton Fitzpaine who made short work of the run chase.

Jim Cutler took 4-35 as only Martin Pearce (20) and Andy Court (11no) registered double figures for the home side. Danny Purcell then hit an unbeaten 44 and Gary Say was 22 not out when a nine-wicket win was sealed.

KINGSKERSWELL will be praying it is third time lucky this Saturday after they were rained off against Culmstock.

Kerswell’s opening game against Exeter CS was also a casualty of the weather.

Babbacombe are due to entertain Woodbury this Saturday, short or match practice as they were rained off away to Yarcombe.

Chelston, who had no game last Saturday, are due to entertain Cullompton at Torre Valley North.
