It’s all very close at the summit of the F Division with three teams battling it out for the two promotion berths.Leaders Babbacombe were without a game as they were the Division’s odd side out on match day 16.
Yarcombe won their penultimate game of the campaign, beating another of the morning’s promotion hopefuls, Kingskerswell by five wickets.
Skipper James Mitchum claimed 3-30 and Ben Fuzzard took 2-23 as the South Devon visitors were restricted to 140-6.
Jon Rich then continued his rich vein of form with a knock of 72 and Bill Reed chipped in with 22 as the winning line was crossed.
Skipper James Mitchum says: “With Babbacombe playing Chelston on the final day it’s so very important that we do bank as many points as we can on Saturday at home to Chardstock. We have worked hard for this all season and need to give it one more big last effort.”
Ton Haskins (3-27) and Mark Berry (3-36) combined to bowled visiting Exeter Civil Service out for 116. Peter McKell then hit an unbeaten 58 in the successful run chase that ended on 117-5.
Cullompton race has run its course. However that’s not because they are not still winning, for they are! Their undoing is a poor mid-season run. They banked another maximum point’s haul with a seven wicket success at home to Culmstock in the Culm Valley derby. Sanjay Rajapakse took 5-27 as Culmstock were bowled out for 129 with only Spencer Popham making an impression with a knock of 59. Home skipper Mark Ashplant then continued his good form with an unbeaten 58 and Jack Grandfield chipped in with 31.
Woodbury were 45-run winners at home to Cheriton Fitzpaine. Adam O’Lesky top scored with 51 and Chalky White chipped in with 19 in a Woods total of 132-8. Rob Squire took 4-39 for the Cherries who were then bundled out for 87 with only Gary Say (20) making much headway with the bat as Toby Ingham (4-18) and Martin Cook (3-15) together with skipper Kev Miller (2-20) claimong wickets.
Chardstock’s game at home to Newton St Cyres only involved 17 players.
With availability issues in both camps it was 8-man Newton St Cyres taking on the 9-man hosts!
Martin Pierce hit 36 of the Mid Devon side’s meagre total of 56. Jack Larcombe claimed 3-29 for Chardstock and then skipper Rob Hutchings hit an unbeaten 28 as the game was won by six wickets on 58-4. Pierce completed a fine all-round effort for the visitors’ with 3-24.
