GLOUCESTERSHIRE star Alex Gidman is to open the new four-lane net facility at Cornwood before a special game at Oak Park next month.
Devon are playing Gloucestershire on the ground in a double-headed benefit game on June 6.
Former England A all-rounder and captain Gidman is one beneficiary and Devon CCC's David Shepherd Foundation is the other.
Devon and Gloucestershire have had close links for many years and over the past few summers have met regularly in benefit games of this type.
The Shepherd Foundation - a youth cricket charity - remembers former Test match umpire David Shepherd, who started his career with Devon in the late 50s them played professionally at Gloucesteshire between 1965-1978.
Cornwood have been steadily improving their ground over the past few seasons. Firstly they added a second pitch, followed in 2010 by a £450,000 pavilion complex.
For 2012 the club have added a £50,000 net facility with Olympic Legacy funding from the Places People Play programme.
The county club has clearly been impressed by the work going on at Oak Park, which is why they asked Cornwood to host the game instead of regular venues such as Budleigh Salterton or Exmouth,
Cornwood's Phil Bees said the timing of the game could not be better as it was in the build-up to the Friends Life Twenty20 tournament.
'The tournament kicks off the following week (June 12) with Gloucestershire's first match being against Somerset on the 14th, so we are hoping they will bring down a reasonably strong side, which could feature Muttiah Muralitharan, who has been contracted to play T20 cricket for them this season,' said Bees.
'At 3.30pm, Alex Gidman will officially open our new four-lane net facility with the game due to start at 4pm.'
Cornwood are hoping the pull in the cricket-watching public from all over west Devon, who seldom get the chance to see quality cricket on their doorstep.
A corporate hospitality package will be on offer - minimum number four - which will include entry, a match programme and a three-course meal with complimentary wine. Contact Wendy Warren (07709 029579) or wendycwarren@hotmail.co.uk with booking enquiries.
Cornwood will be selling refreshments on the ground and will be firing up the barbecue around 5.30pm.
