The County Finals of the U13 Lady Taverners Schools competition took place at Exeter University on 10th March. 8 teams from across the County came along to battle it out for the title Devon Champions.
Two pools of 4 fought it out to qualify for the semi-finals. Bideford College had a successful morning remaining unbeaten in their group. Wins over Torquay Girls Grammar, St Peter’s and South Dartmoor A saw them cruise through to the semi-finals. South Dartmoor A secured second spot – narrowly defeating St Peters by 2 runs.
Sidmouth College also had a good start to the day securing 3 victories to set up their semi-final with South Dartmoor A. The strength in depth of South Dartmoor was evident as their B team took the spoils in games against Tavistock College and Sir John Hunt to also progress to the business end of the competition.
After a pleasant lunch break – spent by many outside in the Spring sunshine, final positions were decided. Torquay girls secured 7th beating Sir John Hunt – who improved massively throughout the day having played very little cricket previously. St Peters would have finished higher than their eventual 5th with a bit of luck and a more favourable draw, but achieved this ranking after putting Tavistock to the sword.
Bideford continued their good form in ending the hopes of an all-South Dartmoor final by knocking out the B team, whilst the A team performed well to consign Sidmouth to the 3rd place play off.
3rd was finally secured by South Dartmoor B who finished in time to see their counterparts win the final and claim the title of County Champions. They now progress to the regional finals at the County Ground, Taunton early next month.
