Dan's the man in Hydon win

DHANUJA Haturusingha belted 96 not out as Clyst Hydon beat Feniton by two wickets.

Feniton may have thought Sri Lankan Haturusingha was having an off day as he failed to take a wicket when the batted.

But Haturusigha more than made up for that odd lapse with a big knock instead. He finished with a floursish by hitting a six to win.

Feniton’s total of 232 for nine was constructed round a 93-run stand for the fifth wicket between Alex Frankpitt (58) and Graham Tucker (42).

Feniton skipper Jonny Pyle chipped in with 40 and Clyst did their bit by chucking in 58 extras.

Kev Sercombe, Oz Besley and Jim Billington took two wickets each for Clyst.

Losing Ian Sutton to the first ball after tea wasn’t the start Clyst had in mind.

Haturusingha had support from Heflin Wood (30) and Graham Trude (27) as Hydon negotiated tidy spells from Pyle (3-14) and Matt Davies to win with an over to go.

Clyst Hydon are away to Filleigh this Saturday.

Feniton will be aiming to bounce back against Barnstaple & Pilton up at Taw Meadow.

Skipper Pyle said, on the evidence of the display against Clyst Hydon, he can look forward to the seasson with optimism despite the mass departures to Honiton during the winter.

“After the pre-season worries about getting a team together there is little doubting the fact that spirit against Clyst Hydon was as good as I have experienced for some time at this club,” said Pyle.

“It was not the easiest of wickets to play on and I felt we batted well and bowled tidily.

“If this is to set the standard for the season then its going to be a very enjoyable experience skippering this bunch of players.”
