Kulkarni the destroyer for record breakers

 

CHELSTON’S 289-run win over Paignton C in Division Two of the South Devon Indoor League easily set a fresh record score for the new competition.

In just 12 overs Chelston amassed 373 for three with every batsman in the team making a half century apart from Matt Bellamy, who went in last and only reached 42.

Vivek Kulkarni led the carnage with 66 not out, which included seven sixes and three fours.

The previous best was Stokeinteignhead’s 243 for two against Abbotskerswell.

Paignton were all out for 84 in reply – Perry Sprung making 63 of them.

Brixham overwhelmed Abbotskerswell B by five wickets after bowling them out for 155 in the last of their 12 overs.

George Northcott and Mark Orchard took two wickets each with Toby Codd (51) top scoring for Abbots.

There were chip ins all the way from Brixham, the best Orchard’s 32.

Jack Wylie was man of the match for Ipplepen in their 54-run win over Harberton,

Wylie hit 30 not out in support of Dave Harris (56) and Chris Partridge (30) in Pens’ total of 161 for two.

He then took three for 36 as Harberton were skitled out for 107 in the ninth over with Mark Harvey (37) top scoring in a losing cause.

Not ever wily old spinner Paul Harding could save Kingskerswell from defeat against  Stokeinteighnead.

Harding top scored with 42 going in last for Kerswell in their total of 129 all out with 10 balls to go. James Pethick made 30.

Stoke won at a canter with nearly three overs to spare with Dan Britcliff (46) and Tom Hawkins (31) leading the way despite a miserly spell of three for 22 from Harding.

DIVISION TWO

Ipplepen 161-2 (D Harris 56, C Partridge 30, J Wylie 30, J Norman 25), Harberton 107-6 (M Harvey 37, D Moseby 20; J Wylie 3-36).

Abbotskerswell 155 (T Codd 51, C Garrett 31; G Northcott 2-34, M Orchard 2-16), Brixham 161-0 (M Orchard 32, G Northcott 26).

Chelston 373-2 (W Szymanski 59, C Harrison 58no, V Kulkarni 66no, C Mabbutt 55 ret, J Tallamy 50), Paignton 84 (P Sprung 63).

Kingskerswell 129 (J Pethick 30, N Butt 26, P Harding 42; T Hawkins 2-21), Stokeinteignhead 133-4 (D Britcliffe 46, T Hawkins 31, A Thornton-Clarke 28; P Harding 3-22).

TORQUAY plough on at the top of the Division One table after beating Abbotskerswell by 23 runs.

Neil Osborne was the only batsman dismissed by Abbots as Torquay made 159 for one with Mickey Wilkinson (51) having the best of an impressive set of scores.

Abbots lost early wickets – both to Ben Passenger – and despite gallant efforts from Karl Beasant (46), T Andrew (42no) and Hugo Whitlock (32) the damage was already done.

Paignton defeated  their own B team by five wickets in a high-scoring affair.

Paignton B posted 148 for three in their 12 overs with Dan Wolf (46) just pipping Conor Ashsworth (45) for top scorer.

Paignton A knocked off the runs with ease and exercised their right to carry on batting, reach a whopping 271 without loss!

George Yates and Ian Selway both made half-centuries; Mark Smith and George Benton were one run short of theirs.

Dartington & Totnes chased down 140 to win against Kingsbridge and got them with four wickets and an over to spare.

James Ellis (36) top scored for Kingsbridge in their total of 139 for three.

D&T were steady all the way through with Jono Colegate (28no) marginally ahead of the rest in the run-scoring stakes.
